New Mixed-Use Development Near Singapore River to Open by 2029
A major new development combining residential, retail, and office spaces is set to be completed by 2029 along Havelock Road, near the Singapore River. The project, named Union Square, is spearheaded by City Developments Limited (CDL) and will rise on the site where Central Mall and Central Square once stood.
At the heart of the development is Union Square Residences, a condominium featuring 366 units, including two sky suites, a penthouse, and a range of one- to four-bedroom apartments. These homes, which vary from 463 to 1,518 square feet, offer residents access to luxurious amenities, such as two clubhouses and two pools, one of which is located on the 34th floor with panoramic views of the city. Unit previews start on November 1, but booking details are yet to be released.
The project is more than just a place to live—CDL has integrated office spaces, co-living units, and 65 retail stores into Union Square. In line with Singapore’s vision of creating pedestrian-friendly spaces, some roads around the area, including parts of Merchant Road and Solomon Street, will be converted into scenic walkways connecting Fort Canning Park to Pearl’s Hill City Park.
Designed under the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s Strategic Development Incentive scheme, the project has been given a 67% increase in gross floor area, bringing the total built-up space to over 735,000 square feet. Union Square aims to blend modern living with the area’s rich cultural heritage, offering an amphitheatre for community events and paying tribute to the traditional Chinese street opera that was once a vibrant part of the neighborhood’s history.
CDL’s Upcoming Newport Residences
As CDL continues to push the boundaries of urban development, another exciting project, Newport Residences, is on the horizon. Located in the heart of the CBD, this luxury mixed-use development promises a perfect blend of sophisticated living, prime office spaces, and vibrant retail, set to redefine city living once again. Stay tuned for more updates.
