Construction work for NS Square, to be developed at the Marina Bay floating platform site, is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2023, with an anticipated completion date of 2027.

Expand Construction has been awarded the construction tender for the redevelopment of The Float @ Marina Bay into NS Square, as announced by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of National Development.

Originally slated for completion in 2025, the project faced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on the construction sector, leading to a revised target completion date of late 2026.

To facilitate the construction process, the section of Marina Promenade in front of The Float @ Marina Bay has been enclosed with hoardings and is closed to pedestrian traffic as of Wednesday. The public is advised to use the alternative pedestrian walkway route along Raffles Avenue until construction concludes.

NS Square will encompass a national service-themed gallery, community sports facilities, and a public waterfront promenade, among other innovative features. This permanent space will serve as the venue for future National Day Parades, River Hongbao carnivals, and the Marina Bay Singapore Countdowns. It will also be adaptable for various events, including concerts, performances, sporting activities, and competitions.

The new permanent stage deck and grandstand will accommodate approximately 30,000 spectators, while the year-round open waterfront promenade around the stage will enhance pedestrian connectivity in the bay area.

Expand Construction emerged as the winner of the open tender for the NS Square construction project initiated by the Defence Science and Technology Agency from October 14, 2022, to January 19, 2023. Six companies submitted a total of 13 proposals.

These six companies were shortlisted based on their financial and safety records, understanding of project requirements and site conditions, as well as their track record and relevant experience. Expand Construction, a local firm with a strong track record in marine works around Marina Bay, was deemed the best fit for the construction requirements. They have previously completed projects such as the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade and Singtel Waterfront Theatre, and have contributed to significant undertakings like the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum and the Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay.

Expand Construction is part of the Expand Group, primarily engaged in the construction of residential, industrial, and specialized niche projects.
